March 7, 2014 – The latest data from digital world measuring firm comScore finds U.S. smartphone ownership penetration has nearly reached 67% as of January 2014. Android and iPhone combine to account for more than 93% of U.S. smartphone market.

Smartphone OEM Market Share

159.8 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones (66.8% mobile market penetration) during the three months ending in December 2013, up 7% since October 2013.

Apple ranked as the top OEM with 41.6% of U.S. smartphone subscribers (up 1 percentage point from October). Samsung ranked second with 26.7% market share (up 1.3 percentage points), followed by LG with 6.9% (up 0.3 percentage points).

Android ranked as the top smartphone platform in January with 51.7% market share, followed by Apple with 41.6%, Microsoft with 3.2%, BlackBerry with 3.1% and Symbian with 0.2%.

Top Smartphone Properties & Apps

Google Sites ranked as the top web property on smartphones, reaching 89.4% of the mobile media audience (mobile browsing and app usage), followed by Facebook (86.6%), Yahoo Sites (86.2%) and Amazon Sites (69%).

Facebook ranked as the top smartphone app, reaching 77.6% of the app audience, followed by Google Play (52.4%), YouTube (49.7%) and Google Search (48.9%).
